Fresh off its first trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament in school history, the SDSU men’s basketball team will open the season on national television against Alabama.

The Jackrabbits will play the Crimson Tide Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. on ESPNU to start the 18th annual 2K Sports Classic, which will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

SDSU will continue the tournament at Hempstead, N.Y., on the campus of Hofstra University where they will play Hofstra, Marshall and Division II University of the District of Columbia over the weekend of Nov. 16-18. The tournament will follow a format similar to the CBE Classic, which the Jacks played in last year against Georgia, before moving to play three more schools at Mercer.

Regardless of the outcome against SDSU, Alabama will move on to play at Madison Square Garden in New York City against Oregon State. The other semifinal will include Villanova and Purdue at MSG.

The Jackrabbits finished last season 27-8, winning the Summit League Tournament Championship, 52-50, in overtime against Western Illinois in Sioux Falls. SDSU, a 14-seed in the South region, went to play third-seed Baylor in Albuquerque, N.M., where they fell to the Bears, 68-60 at The Pit.
