Exec director of tribal nonprofit to speak at SDSU

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — The executive director of a well-known nonprofit organization on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation dedicated to helping youth will share plans for the organization’s future and other topics during a banquet at South Dakota State University next week.

Julie Garreau has been the director of the Cheyenne River Youth Project since its inception in 1988. The nonprofit organization in Eagle Butte provides family services and a youth center.

Garreau will speak on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. as part of SDSU’s Common Read event. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased at the Teaching Learning Center.
