Jackrabbit men’s and women’s tennis set their sights on Summit League Championship matches after wins in Denver, Colo.

The Jacks are set to enter their respective tournaments with the men seeded third and women seeded second.

“I am pretty confident that we will do well in the Summit Championships because we have been mentally and physically tested in the past and have been able to pull through,” junior Gary Notkin said. “That will only help up in these most important matches coming up.”

Friday’s contest brought the men a 7-0 loss to Western Illinois; the Jacks then rallied back to win their regular season finale 4-3 win over IUPUI.

Andrea Boglic, Parker Lawley and Lovro Curcija dropped singles matches. Boglic, fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles as Lawley and dropped 7-5, 6-1, respectively.

Henrique Pereira dropped at No. 4 singles 2-6, 7-5 and 11-9.

In doubles play, Craig/Gasson, Rocha/Biasion and Marback/James dropped 8-3, 8-0 and 8-3, respectively.

Saturday’s regular season finale proved a close contest, but SDSU won through determination and effort, according to Andrea Boglic.

“[The team] supported me throughout the entire semester while I was injured,” Boglic said. “It was hard, but without them I would never make it. The effort and fight we showed was crucial for winning over IUPUI.”

Singles competition brought five wins. Boglic at No.1 singles carried a 6-3, 7-5 victory alongside winning matches in No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. Boglic/Parker defeated IUPUI’s O’Neill/Toliver 8-4. Moreira/Notkin and Pereira H./Pereira L. dropped 8-5, 8-1, respectively.

“Our strategy for every match, and of course for The Summit League Championship, is to fight and focus from the first to last point.” Boglic said. “All the teams are very good in tennis, but the matter is about effort and determination outside and on the tennis court.”

SDSU women brought home a pair of wins over Western Illinois and IUPUI to polish off the regular season, 7-0 and 3-4, respectively.

The Jacks continued to show strength in singles play in both matches. Florencia Magni defeated WIU’s Wallace 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. Jenny Blackburne, Iasmin Rosa, Beatriz Souza, Ffion Davies and Tacy Haws-Lay Rosa/Souza and Davies/Haws-Lay defeated their respective opponents 8-0 in doubles No. 2 and No. 3. Magni/Blackburne tallied an 8-3 win over WIU’s Wallace/Jones.

SDSU men will face No.2-seeded Fort Wayne on Saturday. The women will await the winner of Fort Wayne (No. 3) and Western Illinois (No.7) on April 26.
