Baszler resigns

Saturday morning the SDSU athletic department announced the resignation of head men’s and women’s golf coach Jared Baszler.

Baszler served as head coach for the last 11 years at SDSU. He presided over a great deal of growth in the program including the advent of two SDSU hosted tournaments – one in South Dakota, Division I’s first, and another in Utah.

He also saw the training facilities improve as, one year ago, the indoor golf room was completed to allow his team to better practice during winter months.

His announcement comes a week and half after he guided the men to a third place finish and the women to a fourth place finish in the Summit League Tournament.

Baszler gave the following statement about his resignation:

“It’s been an incredible 11 years here at SDSU with the Jackrabbit golf programs, and I want to thank everyone in this athletics department for the rewarding experience for me and my family,” Baszler said. “While my future business endeavors take me away from coaching, I’ll be a Jackrabbit the rest of my life, and I look forward to being a better father, husband, family member and friend going forward. I also plan on being involved with the program on a volunteer basis. Our program, this athletic department and the entire university are primed to achieve big things in the next 10-20 years and I am excited to see that transpire. I wish our current and future players the best of luck in all their future endeavors, I’ll be your biggest and most passionate fan.”

Athletic Director Justin Sell has announced that the search for Baszler’s replacement will begin immediately.
