Running 16,368 feet, or 3.1 miles, might seem like a long and arduous task, but when it’s for children, some might reconsider.

The third annual Kolor for Kids 5K will take place this Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Performing Arts Center. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will begin at 10 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the University Program Council and State-A-Thon. All of the proceeds will go to the local Sanford Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A pre-registration fee is $15 and ends on Sept. 5. Registration for the day of the race will be $20. Students can register in the UPC office.

Last year, they had around 100 participants, but this year they are expecting even more.

“We’re hoping for an even better turnout this year,” said Michelle Albert, State-A-Thon Overall Coordinator.

According to the State-A-Thon Overall Assistant, Nathan Langston, all of the Reserve Office Training Corps is running in the event.

There will be t-shirts given out to those registered, but will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, people can check out the event’s Facebook page called Kolor for Kids 5K or call the UPC office.
