Bott named Honors interim dean

Rebecca Bott was named interim dean of the Fishback Honors College. She will take charge in August.

Bott, an assistant professor and extension equine specialist, will work with former Honors College Dean, Tim Nichols, throughout the summer. She will be involved in New Student Orientation sessions and continuing the college’s strategic plan with Nichols.

She has worked with honors students in research and service projects. She’s also been involved with the Honors College by attending the Undergraduate Research Scholarship and Creative Activity Day events (URSCAD), Honors Convocations, Medallion Ceremonies and Honors Thanksgiving gatherings.

Nichols will follow his wife, former Provost Laurie Nichols, to the University of Wyoming where she will serve as the first female president.

“While we will all miss his warm smile and genuine leadership,” Bott wrote in a letter to honors students, “we have a responsibility to embrace the rich tradition of excellence that Dean Nichols established and to continue this legacy moving forward.”

Bott said she looks forward to working with students to reach their academic and career goals over the year.
