In its first Summit League conference game of the year, South Dakota State opened with a bang.

The Jackrabbits (11-5, 1-0) defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks (5-9, 0-1) 100-58.

It was a group affair for scoring from the Jackrabbits. In total, six players scored double digits.

David Jenkins Jr. led all scorers with 23 points and connected on five 3-pointers.

Mike Daum moved into the top 30 NCAA all-time scoring leaders, surpassing Calbert Cheaney of Indiana. Daum now has 2,626 points.

In their first Summit League play, redshirt freshmen showed up and scored points in bunches.

Redshirt freshman Alex Arians led with 12 points, while true freshman Owen King had 10 points. Alou Dillon, another redshirt freshman, scored nine points.

Part of the success for the Jackrabbits was the ability to cause turnovers, score points in the paints and out-rebounding the Leathernecks.

SDSU had nine steals, scoring 22 points on Leatherneck turnovers.

Up next, South Dakota State will turn its focus to Purdue Fort Wayne. That matchup will start at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 3, in Fort Wayne Indiana.
