On Friday afternoon, the reigning Summit League Player of the Year, Mike Daum, announced on Twitter he will be declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft but won’t hire an agent.

As a junior, Daum led the Jacks during the 2017-18 season with 23.7 points per game. He led South Dakota State to the NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated in the first round with an 81-73 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

This doesn’t mean there’s not a chance Daum will play for South Dakota State in the 2018-19 season. He will retain his eligibility since he chose not to hire an agent.

Daum has until June 11 to make his final decision and actually enter the draft.

It’s become a common for college athletes to declare for the NBA Draft and not hire an agent. Mostly so they can test the draft waters and see where they could potentially go.

If Daum impresses scouts at the NBA Draft Combine May 16 to 20, there is a chance he could hear his name called during the NBA Draft, which is set to take place June 21.
