Officials at South Dakota State University are investigating a racist message found in one of the campus residence halls Thursday night.

The message included profanities and a racial slur and was found in one of the residence hall’s bathrooms. It was featured in a tweet sent out by a freshman football player at SDSU.

The university is aware of the allegation of discrimination and harassment that occurred toward a student in the residence hall, according to an email sent by Michaela Willis, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

“SDSU does not tolerate incidents involving discrimination and harassment,” Willis said. “The university has launched an investigation into the matter and will hold accountable any individual or individuals found responsible in accordance with our university policies and procedures.”

When contacted by The Collegian, Willis said more information will be available next week.

Anyone with more information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Office of Title IX/EO at 605-688-4128. An anonymous report may also be completed through Lighthouse.
