While students are just returning to campus for the beginning of the spring semester, the men’s and women’s basketball teams and wrestling squad have been busy starting off their seasons.

Here’s a look into what’s been happening while campus was empty.

Men’s Basketball

Record: 8-3

Past Games: The Jackrabbit men kicked off their conference season with two games against Western Illinois at home Jan. 8 and 9.

Fast Facts: South Dakota State men have a home court win streak of 26 games and have won their 30th straight home conference game. They are also one of three undefeated teams in Summit League play.

Upcoming Games: The Jacks were scheduled to play at Omaha Jan. 15 and 16, but the games have been canceled in accordance with the Summit League’s COVID-19 protocols. The next scheduled matchup is versus the University of North Dakota Jan. 22

Women’s Basketball

Record: 9-2

Past Games: SDSU women won both games against Western Illinois at home Jan. 8 and 9, starting off their conference season with a perfect 2-0 record.

Fast Facts: Coach Aaron Johnston reached 500 career wins, making him SDSU and the Summit League’s winningest women’s basketball coach. The women are also on a 6-game win streak.

Upcoming Games: The Jacks head to Omaha for their first road conference game Jan. 15.

Wrestling

Record: 1-3

Past Matches: The wrestling team held a triangular at SDSU against North Dakota State and Northern Iowa, but lost to both teams Jan. 10 and fell to an 0-2 conference start.

Fast Facts: South Dakota Board of Regents approved plans in December for a new wrestling training facility on campus.

Upcoming Matches: The Jacks resume Big 12 competition with duals against Air Force and Northern Colorado Jan. 17.
