Following an upset of Northern Iowa Friday night, the South Dakota State wrestling team returned to Frost Arena Sunday afternoon for a Big 12 Conference dual against Wyoming.

The dual wasn’t decided until the final match, but the Jackrabbits capped the weekend with a 17-16 win over the Cowboys.

Each side won five matches in the, but the Jacks scored more bonus points to earn the dual win, the team’s fifth in a row.

SDSU’s Danny Vega got things off to a fast start for the Jacks, getting a tech fall at 125 pounds — the bonus for which proved to be crucial.

After nine matches, the score stood at 17-13, meaning Blake Wolters either had to win or avoid conceding bonus points to Wyoming’s 20th-ranked Brian Andrews for SDSU to take the dual. Andrews was awarded one point for riding time after the match went scoreless through regulation, but the individual effort only earned three points for his team, leaving the Cowboys one point short.

The Jacks will be back in Frost Arena at 7 p.m. Friday to take on the ninth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones.
