The putts were sinking for junior Annie Spaulding last weekend as she claimed medalist honors at the University of South Dakota Invitational April 14 and 15.

Spaulding, of Brookings, shot 156 to win the 36-hole tournament, held at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.

The next finisher for the Jackrabbits was sophomore Arin Adamson at 181 (91-90).

She was followed by juniors Heidi Tjosaas and Lynn Stoneburner, who shot identical rounds of 184 (96-88).

Jill Murra finished with 185 (99-86), improving by 13 strokes during the tournament. The scores improved with the weather from Saturday’s play to Sunday, as the Jacks shaved 31 strokes off the team total.

“The course was in better shape than what we have been playing on. It also helped to have the weather cooperate on Sunday,” Spaulding said.

The Jacks shot 366 in heavy winds on Saturday. That score dropped to 335 on Sunday as the sunshine prevailed.

The team trophy went to host USD with a total of 677. In second, with 681, was Southwest State. Third place went to NDSU at 684. SDSU finished fourth with 701.

Next up for the Jackrabbits is the Minnesota State University, Mankato Invitational April 20 and 21.
