The SDSU track and field team made their trip to Kansas worth it, as four athletes earned provisional qualifying marks last weekend at the Division II Challenge in Emporia, Kan.

“The teams continue to improve with each competition,” head coach Paul Danger said. “We really had some people step forward this weekend, gaining qualifying times and personal best marks.”

Senior Holly Hagena placed second in the discus, with a provisional throw of 146 feet 9 inches.

Erin Woolley placed third in the 3,000 meter run in 10:12.

University of Washington transfer Matt Pearson continued his successful season, winning the 1,500 meter run in 3:53.

Freshman Brad Lowery ran the 800 meter run in 1:51, which was good enough for third place.

“With every day of training now I feel we are moving ahead, and our athletes are keyed on the meets,” Danger said. “If we can continue this progression, I look forward to a high finish at the conference championships at the end of the season.”

Other top finishers s for the men include: Kevin Bjerke, who placed fourth in the 5,000 meter run in 15:53, and Steven Schrieber who jumped 6 feet 2 inches to place fifth in the high jump.

On the women’s side: All-American Jennifer Stovall placed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.68 seconds, and Jamie Keck jumped 37 feet 2 inches to place fourth in the triple jump.

“The warm weather over the last week has greatly aided our training, and the results showed it this past weekend,” Danger said. “I feel we just keep getting better with every day of training now, and we will use the time wisely over these next weeks leading to conference.”
