Men win first NCC golf title since 1960

The South Dakota State University men’s golf team finished the season strong, winning both the Northwest Regional title and the North Central Conference crown.

In Kearney, Neb., Sept.30-Oct. 1, the Jacks finished three strokes ahead of Colorado Springs to win the regional competition, 849-852.

Host team Nebraska-Kearney finished in third with 865 at Meadowlark Golf Course.

Senior Brian Schultz led SDSU with 209 (67-71-71), placing him in a four-way tie for second place. Charlie Jacobson finished at 215 (71-70-74), while Matt Conlon shot 216 (73-72-71). Shooting 217s were Ryan Cooley (74-76-67) and John Oien (75-71-71).

Cooley and the Jacks captured the North Central Conference tournament last weekend at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb. It was the first SDSU men’s golf title won since 1960.

Cooley claimed medalist honors, carding 220 (74-70-76) over 54 holes.

He was followed by Schultz, who finished fifth individually
