“Warning: Loud and Crazy student fan section may be harmful to conference opponents!”

This is the promise of SDSU’s resident school spirit promotions group, the Jacks Fanaddicts.

In their second year, the Fannaddicts try to rally school spirit at Jackrabbit sporting events by offering prizes for attendance at home sporting events.

Students sign up with their student ID number at the Fannaddicts table before the game starts and receive prizes in order of the number of selected events they attend. The first event is good for a free Taco John’s taco, while number two offers up a free Fanaddicts T-shirt.

Katie Morrison, a wellness graduate assistant and Fanaddicts organizer, encourages students to participate.

“There’s no reason they shouldn’t, especially when there’s nothing else to do,” Morisson said. “The majority of our sports teams are doing well.”

The group has already been busy: they organized Midnight Madness, a pre-season event promoting the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and worked with the Athletic Department and Residential Life groups on “Jam the Stands.”

The event successfully lured enough students to break the home attendance record for an SDSU volleyball game, last Saturday night at Frost Arena. The attendance of 1,129 broke the previous record of 1,038.

Brown Hall fourth floor won the hall competition and a free pizza party by having the largest representation at the game.

Fanaddicts organizers encourage participating students to wear yellow and blue and cheer loudly at events.

Some upcoming Fanaddict events include the Nov. 1 Swim Meet against USD at 6:00 p.m. and the Nov. 8 volleyball match against Augustana at 7:00 p.m.
