SEEKING CONTESTANTS FOR MISS PHEASANT COUNTRY SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT

The fourth annual Miss Pheasant Country Scholarship Pageant will be held December 28 in Redfield where young women can earn educational scholarships and the opportunity to compete to be Miss South Dakota, show their poise and beauty, and demonstrate their talents and leadership qualities. The Miss Pheasant Country organization, an affiliate of the Miss America Organization, is now seeking contestants for the pageant.

A total of $2300 in college scholarships will be awarded to the winner, first runner-up, most talented, top first-time contestant, and the best interviewer. Funding for the scholarships is provided by a number of businesses and individuals. Single women ages 17 to 24 that either live or attend college in east river South Dakota are eligible to compete. Ron and Anita Frankenstein are the executive directors for the Redfield pageant and their daughter Sara will produce and direct the production. Potential contestants are encouraged to contact the Frankensteins (472-2000 or email [email protected]) to learn how they can become a contestant. Applications are needed before December 2.

A distinguished panel of judges will score the contestants in four areas of competition. Talent contributes 30 % of the score, interview 40 %, swimsuit 10%, evening wear 10 % and overall composite 10%. The pageant program will also include songs and dancing by many area youth with CBS television Survivor Australian Outback participant, Mitchell Olson, serving as emcee. Last year’s Miss Pheasant Country, Kelly Kangley and Miss South Dakota, Vanessa Shortbull will also perform.

The winner advances to Hot Springs to compete to become Miss South Dakota next June. Miss South Dakota advances to the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Miss America Organization is the largest supplier of scholarship funding for women providing over $40 million annually,
