Goss, Theisz win 2003 Humanities Awards in Pierre

The South Dakota Humanities Council named Sidney Goss and R.D. Theisz as the winners of the 2003 Humanities Awards.

The awards were given in Pierre at a luncheon held in conjunction with a South Dakota State Historical Society seminar.

Goss, a sociology professor at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, received an award for Distinguished Service in the Humanities.

“Sid has been tireless in promoting the humanities for many years both on and off the Council,” Jack Lyons, SDHC chair, said.

Theisz, the chair of the humanities department at Black Hills State University, received the Lifetime Achievement Award in the Humanities. He started working with the South Dakota Humanities Council in1974 and has been involved with the humanities at all levels.

SDHC is an independent, non-profit corporation supported by grants from multiple sources. Its mission is to support and promote public programming and provide grant funding for programs in traditional humanities disciplines.
