The SDSU softball team matched its win total from last year on Sunday as they went 4-4 in action last week.

The Jacks began their week with a doubleheader sweep of Northern State last Tuesday. The Jacks won the opener 9-1 as Gabby Smith hit two runs with Ashley Kalina and Mandi Geis also adding home runs.

SDSU capped the day with a 6-5 comeback win that ended on senior Jill Hlavacek’s two-run home run. Smith added her third home run of the day.

Jackie Sorenson earned the victories for both games.

The team then split a doubleheader against Nebraska-Kearney at Kearney.

The Jacks began the day with a 6-5 victory in nine innings that was keyed by Kalina’s hit which drove in the go-ahead run.

The Jackrabbits then fell 5-4 in the nitecap.

SDSU began its NCC schedule in Greeley, Colorado, on Saturday with a pair of defeats as they fell to Augustana 3-1 and to USD 5-3 in eight innings.

The team dropped the first game on Sunday 8-1 to Nebraska-Omaha before bouncing back and defeating Northern Colorado 3-1. Kalina hit her third home run of the season to lead the Jacks as Meggan Staton picked up her eighth win of the season.

SDSU plays Thursday when they host Minnesota State, Mankato in an afternoon doubleheader next.
