The SDSU women’s volleyball team traveled north this past weekend in search of a fast start on their quest for a conference title in their last season in the NCC.

The great challenge was facing a ranked North Dakota State squad and a solid North Dakota team.

The thirteenth-ranked Bison upended the Jacks after a five-game battle on Friday night in Fargo.

The Bison and Jackrabbits exchanged victories in the first four games before NDSU won the fifth game 15-11 to claim the match.

Two-time NCC Player of the Week Kim Bostrom led the Lady Jacks with 16 kills while senior Wendy O’Neill contributed 15 kills for SDSU. FreshmanLaura Hegerle posted a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs.

SDSU finished its weekend by traveling to Grand Forks and falling to North Dakota three games to one.

After the Jacks won the first game, the Fighting Sioux took control of the match with three consecutive games.

Bostrom led the Yellow and Blue in the losing effort with 11 kills. Hegerle notched another double-double as she had 10 kills and 12 digs.

The Lady Jacks are now 10-6 for the season and 0-2 in the NCC.

SDSU looks to get back on the winning track this weekend as they play host to ranked Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday and St. Cloud State on Saturday.
