The SDSU men’s hockey team evened the score this weekend as they lost and won one game each against the Iowa State JV.

Friday’s action ended with a 6-7 loss for the Jacks.

The Jack’s dominated in the first period, bringing the score to 4-1. SDSU coach Marty Schipull said the opposite happened in the second period as the Jacks fell behind 6-4.

A last effort to regain lost ground led to two goals by the home team in the last six minutes of the game, and the Jacks lost 6-7.

Saturday’s game proved to be more successful for SDSU as they beat the Cyclones 9-2.

Schipull said the teams played evenly through the first two periods.

Iowa State led in shots on goal all three periods, but the Jacks were passing to generate much better chances to score, he said.

SDSU freshman center Matt Aiken was the team’s standout in each game, scoring three goals both on Friday and Saturday.

The Jacks return to action this weekend for the last game of the semester as they face the University of Northern Iowa on Friday at 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Their first games after the winter break are against Carleton College. The games are Jan. 9 and 10 at 9 p.m.
