Brookings mayor speaks at Students’ Association meeting

Brookings Mayor Scott Munsterman gave a city update at the open forum session of the Students’ Association meeting on Monday, Oct. 17.

Munsterman cited retail business as the primary expansion in Brookings.

He spoke on the passing of the Brooking’s Lowes vote. He couldn’t cite any specifics, but said there was an expectation for a major announcement with regards to businesses within the next six to 12 months.

He said the biggest challenge for business expansion in Brookings is land availability. Munsterman said that retail businesses were the primary growth in the city.

Munsterman spoke on the future options for the Brookings airport.

He said a few options were to change the angle of the runway, or relocate the airport completely.

In other SA news:

SA President Ryan Brunner met with the North Dakota Student Federation to speak with issues affecting college students. He said his visit also began dialogue to expand on regional issues.

A meal for SDSU’s international students is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Lincoln Music Hall.

The dinner is sponsored by the SA, with help from the Greek Programming Board.

SA Vice President Tim Wrenn said at Monday’s meeting that a committee was formed to spur action on a proposed recycling committee.

He said representatives from SDSU dormitories had been contacted to get recycling bins in place at the dorms.
