When the last weeks of the semester come to a close and the holiday vacation begins, the campus of SDSU becomes a much quieter place.

For those hanging around for Christmas vacation, or looking for something new at anytime, the South Dakota Art Museum currently has several new exhibits on display.

Three new exhibits include “South Dakota Artist Series: George Prisbe and Dick Edie,” “Native American Artists – After Lewis and Clark” and an exhibit of Modern and Contemporary Art from the permanent museum collection.

“South Dakota Artist Series: George Prisbe and Dick Edie” is on display from Nov. 3, 2005 through March 5, 2006. The exhibit features landscape paintings by Prisbe, and various ceramic pieces by Edie.

“Native American Artists – After Lewis and Clark” is a national traveling exhibition designed by the Montana Museum of Art & Culture in Missoula. The exhibit was created to acknowledge the contributions Native Americans made toward the success of the Lewis and Clark expedition and to examine the consequences of the expedition. The exhibit is on display from Nov. 3, 2005 through Jan. 8, 2006.

The latest exhibit at the museum is a display of Modern and Contemporary Art from the museum’s permanent collection. More than 40 works are included in the exhibit. The pieces were selected by the museum’s staff from the more than 6,000 works in the permanent collection of the museum. This exhibit is on display Nov. 30, 2005 through March 26, 2006.

Coming Dec. 9 is an exhibit featuring the paint textiles and sculptures of artist William Thielen. This exhibit will be on display until April 2, 2006.
