The 12th annual Cereal Bowl saw SDSU host the fourth-ranked University of Northern Iowa Panthers, in SDSU’s home opener.

The stands were packed as 10,844 fans watched a powerful offensive game from both teams. With just three seconds left on the clock in the first half, SDSU’s head football coach John Stiegelmeier used two consecutive timeouts to freeze UNI’s kicker Billy Hallgren. The timeouts worked, as Hallgren’s kick was blocked by a host of Jackrabbits. SDSU took the lead at half 14-13.

The gridiron Jacks were unable to hold the lead though, as UNI’s running back Corey Lewis and quarterback Eric Sanders took over, and prevailed, leading the Panthers to a 31-17 victory to go 3-0 on the season. SDSU remains winless (0-3).
