Equestrian: Jacks tie, lose against Stephen F. Austin

The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin defeated the SDSU equestrian team on Sept. 22, at the Swiftel Center. The final score was eight match wins for SDSU and eight match wins for SFA in head to head match play. SFA won the tiebreaker 515-507 in the English side; also the Lumberjacks edged the riding Jacks 482.5 to 477.5. The final tiebreaker was SFA 996.5 to 984.5 with both schools lowest score in both the Western and English side.

SDSU’s Abbe Knobbe outlasted Felicia Shartle(72-69.5) and Lydia Roof(67-57.5) in the reining competition of the Western Side. SDSU took three out of four in reining side.

SDSU rider Marian Michalson was the lone winner in the English side Equation over the fences, blowing out SFA rider Shannon Zelikoff 72-55.

SDSU riders Ashley Marnin and Kaylee Devries ended the equitation on the float, tied with their opponents causing SDSU and Stephen F. Austin to tie in the competion.

Besides having very close equestrian teams, both schools are both commonly referred as the ‘Jacks. With SDSU’s nickname ‘JACK'(s)rabbits, and Lumber’JACKS.’

SDSU returns to riding on Hobo Day (Sept. 29) starting at 9 a.m. at the Swiftel Center. SDSU will compete against the Kansas State Wildcats.
