Using young riders and facing a more experienced team, the SDSU equestrian team fell to Kansas State University 11.5-5.5 in a dual match up at the Swiftel Center on Sept. 29.

SDSU competed well on the Western side. Jordanne Blair and Molly Seidel earned victories in horsemanship. Abby Knobbe and Angela Gebhart earned victories on the reining side of the western competition.

On the English side, KSU dominated, winning six of the eight head-to-head match-ups. Kendall Marrin led the Wildcats to the victory in early season action. Marrin led all scores in equitation over fences with an 82 mark and equitation over flat with a score of 75.

Danielle Pettra led all scores in Western Reining (72.5). Pettra defeated SDSU rider Lacey Vernon.

Marian Michalson, the lone victor for the Jacks in equitation over fences, defeated Leslie Yates, 76-75.

The Jacks will return to action on Oct. 6, traveling to take on the defending national champions, the Gamecocks at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. The Jacks will compete both in the Western side and the English side.

It is very common for the host university to let the opposing school ride their horses in competition.
