Garrigues is lone individual winner

In a night in which Saint Louis University would dominate the individual events, SDSU’s Mark Garrigues was the only Jackrabbit to finish first in individual meets on Jan. 18.

The victory was Garrigues’s second of the season in the 200-yard medley; he had a time of 2.00.62.

The team of John Bisson, Hadleigh Tyler, Chris Holzwarth and Garrigues placed first for the Jackrabbits in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.41. They edged out the Saint Louis team of Kevin Parker, Adam Trafton, B.J. Sayre and Jimmy Ritt after trailing for three laps. The Saint Louis team finished with a time of 1:29.59.

SDSU’s Mark Sandager placed second in the 200-yard freestyle behind Trafton.

Michael Dahle placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle relay for the Billikens with a time of 9:43.00. SDSU’s Ryan Willett came in second with a time of 10:37.87.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Billiken team of Brad Byars, Kevin Parker, Trafton, and Stephen Sheridan came in first with a time of 6:57.37, while the Jackrabbit team of Garrigues, Matt Josephson, Sandager and Josh Mueller came in third with a time of 7:19.99.

Holzwarth came in a close second for the Jackrabbits in the 50-yard freestyle competition with a time of 22.24; first place Byars had a time of 21.24 for Saint Louis.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Saint Louis team led by Parker, Byars, Sheridan and Sal Cruz placed first. The Jackrabbit team of Josephson, Blake Gipson, Jason Garder and Tyler placed third.

SDSU failed to place in the one-meter diving competition, Saint Louis teammates David Umphres placed first and Tim Adams got second. Umphres had a score of 150.95, and Adams scored 116.35

Byars won the 100-yard butterfly for the Billikens with a time of 51.06, Dahle came in second with a time of 54.80, and SDSU’s Garrigues came in a close third with a time of 55.00.

In the 100-yard freestyle Holzwarth placed third for the Jackrabbits with a time of 49.34; Trafton placed first and Sheridan came in second for the Billikens. Trafton’s time was 48.09 and Sheridan had a time of 49.02.

The 100-yard backstroke featured another third place finish for the Jackrabbits; Josephson finished behind Saint Louis’s Parker and Justin Breithaupt.

Dahle finished first in the 500-yard freestyle for Saint Louis, followed by his teammate Joey Frampus, Mueller placed third for the Jackrabbits and Millett came in fourth.

Gipson scored a second place finish for the Jackrabbits in the 100-yard breast stroke behind Cruz.
