Women’s Swim/Dive team falls short to St. Louis University

The SDSU women’s swimming/diving team faced the University of Saint Louis on Jan. 18. In a night that featured several strong performances from St. Louis, the SDSU 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alex Hoffman, Mallory Onisk, Sara Olenich and Rachel Musser broke a SDSU record Friday night with a time of 1:41.07.

Hoffman also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.82, which was her first win of the season in this event. Saint Louis’s Katie Robertson placed second 1:59.73, followed by her teammate Emily Triggs who had a time of 2:00.74. SDSU’s Christina Gerometta placed fourth with a time of 2:00.86

Emily Tschetter placed second in the 100-yard breast stroke for the Jackrabbits. With a time of 1:10.71 she was close behind first place Elena Ramirez who had a time of 1:10.43 for SLU.

SLU was able to win the 800-yard Freestyle Relay behind a time of 7:56.45 from Katie Robertson, Erin Carlyle, Jordan Hagar, and Sarah Bennet. SDSU’s team of Hoffman, Musser, Onisk and Gerometta came in second with a time of 8:03.24

Jessica Schwarz won the 1000-yard freestyle competition with a time of 10:59.78 for the Billikens. Schwarz’s teammate Laura Robertson placed second with a time of 11:04.69. Cassie Kozar placed third for the Jackrabbits, coming in with a time of 11:08.60.

Saint Louis’s Erin Carlyle won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.62, barely beating out her teammate Ashley Potocki whose time was 25.76. Olenich placed third for SDSU with a time of 26.20.

In the 200-yard individual medley Ramirez placed first for the Billikens with a time of 2:12.44. Sarah Bennet got second for Saint Louis with a time of 2:13.87. Onisk placed third for the Jackrabbits with a time of 2:14.33.

SLU’s Ramirez also won the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:00.03.

The 200-yard medley relay would lead to another win for the Billikens. The team led by Lindsey Tamkun, Ramirez, Bennet and Jordan Hagar placed first followed by SDSU’s April Peterson, Tschetter, Chelsea Colborn and Olenich in second.

SDSU’s Sasha Porter placed second in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 205.90, while Saint Louis’s Anna Larson placed first with a score of 251.40.

Bennet won the 100-yard butterfly competition for the Billikens with a time of 58.92. Onisk placed second for the Jackrabbits with a time of 59.47.

SDSU’s Musser came in second in the 100-yard freestyle, Saint Louis’s Carlyle placed first.

Katie Robertson won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.60 for SLU. Gerometta came in third for the Jackrabbits with a time of 5:19.98.
