The Jackrabbits finished third at the Aztec Classic hosted by San Diego State with sophomore Hillary Gerster finishing second individually.

Gerster shot a combined score of 150 in the two-round event and was three shots behind North Dakota State’s Amanda Miller, who was the individual medalist.

The Jacks also finished three behind the winner, firing a 621. San Diego State won the event, firing a 618, with NDSU finishing second with a 619.

All five members of the SDSU team finished in the top 25; Sydney Sturdevant finished 11th, Rebecca Swords finished in a tie for 15th, Becca Hanten tied for 17th and Whitney Schrader finished in a tie for 25th.

The Jacks were in second place by a stroke heading into the second round after firing a first-round 309. They shot a second-round 312 to finish in third.

This was Gerster’s second highest finish behind a tie for first at the Cowgirl Classic last season, a tournament which Gerster ended up finishing second after a scorecard playoff.

The Jacks’ women’s golf team returns to action Oct. 20 to 21 when they travel to Penora, Iowa, to take part in the Missouri Valley Fall Preview hosted by Drake.
