SDSU started off their Summit League schedule with two consecutive wins on the road.

On Sept. 26 in Indianapolis, Ind., the Jacks shut out IUPUI with a 1-0 win. The lone goal came from Kelsey Ferguson during the 71st minute, her third of the season. Freshman Cori Bonte assisted on the goal for her first point as a Jackrabbit.

The Jacks then traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind., to face league opponent IPFW on Sept. 28. During the 48th minute, Erin Kasmarik found the back of the net for her team, her fifth goal of the season. Senior Vanessa Paswaters recorded her second assist on the season on the Kasmarik goal.

Goalie Nicole Lograsso had two saves in each of the two SDSU victories. Lograsso is now the all-time Jackrabbit leader in career shutouts (13), second in wins (21) and second in career saves (218).

Kerstyn Farrell was rewarded for her defensive efforts by being named Summit League Player of the Week.

“Getting a good start to the Summit League portion of our season was very important,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “It was not only imperative that we get two positive results but to win on the road is also vital to accomplishing our seasonal goals. The team handled the long flights and van rides and did what they needed to do this past weekend. But it will only get tougher as we progress further into conference play over the next three weekends.”

SDSU’s current four-game winning streak is tied for the longest in the history of Jackrabbit women’s soccer. They had two separate four-game winning streaks in the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

SDSU has the best record in the Summit League at 2-0-0 in conference play (6-3-0). The Jacks play five consecutive games at Fishback Soccer Park starting with Western Illinois on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. and Southern Utah on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
