Junior sets new high jump record at Classic

In Fargo, SDSU junior Ben Jasinski led the men’s track team, setting a school record while placing first in the high jump with a height of 6 feet-10.5 inches on Jan. 17 in the Bison Classic.

SDSU’s Camden Helder, a junior from Volga, S.D., placed second in the high jump with a height of 6-08.00.” Jasinski also scored a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 48-08.00,” for third all-time at SDSU.

SDSU’s Nick Schanaman ran the fourth-best 60-meter hurdle time at SDSU, taking second in the event with a time of 8.31 seconds. North Dakota State’s Weston Leutz placed first with a time of 8.09.

In the mile run, Michael Krsnak, a freshman at SDSU, took first place with a time of 4 minutes and 24.90 seconds. He was one of five SDSU runners that placed in the top 11. Greg Vollmer took fourth in 4:31.03, Brad Anderson finished sixth in 4:32.27, Todd Vlieger placed ninth in 4:37.47 and Anthony Bongard came in 11th in 4:38.24.

Sean Burns set a SDSU school record in the weight throw preliminaries with a toss of 57 feet-08.25 inches and tossed the same distance in the finals to take second.

Minnesota State Moorhead’s Brock Keaton and Uchenna Ogbonnaya took first and second respectively with times of 6.99 and 7.09 in the 60-meter dash. SDSU’s Landon Lupi placed sixth with a time of 7.22.

SDSU’s Jared Vlastuin placed first in the long jump with a leap of 23-07.25″.

In the 400-meter dash, Jayce Miller, running unattached, came in first with a time of 50.16. SDSU’s Luke Leischner placed seventh with a time of 51.84.

For the Jackrabbits, Jake Schneller and Vollmer placed fourth and sixth respectively in the 800-meter run with times of 2:00.40 and 2:01.55.

In the 1000-meter run, Krsnak took another first-place finish with a time of 2:35.61. SDSU’s Troy Beekman placed 11th in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet-1.50 inches.

In the 1600 meter relay, the Jackrabbit team of Evan Bunkers, Leischner, Jared Foote and Dustin Gibbons earned a third-place finish with a time of 3:31.03.

The Jackrabbit men will compete in Ames, Iowa, on Jan. 23 and 24 at the Iowa State Open.
