SDSU wrestlers lost to UNI at the Jan. 23 dual in Cedar Falls, Ia., 35-6.

The first match of the night had SDSU’s Aaron Pickrel paired against Caleb Flores. Flores scored an early takedown and went on to win the match 7-3, giving UNI a lead it never relinquished.

The 141 match was exciting for the Jacks, as Dustin Walraven pulled out a comeback victory over Charlie Ettelson.

“Walraven put himself in a hole and came back,” said head coach Jason Liles. “That was a good sign for him in the future.”

Ettelson had the lead through most of the match, but in the final 30 seconds, Walraven scored three takedowns, with the final takedown at 0:01. He was awarded a stalling point, which gave him the lead at 8-7 and the win.

The 149 match featured Nick Hagar taking on Trevor Kittleson. Kittleson controlled almost the entire match, defeating Hagar at 11-3.

Nick Flynn was the next Jackrabbit to compete as he took on South Dakota native Tyson Reiner. Reiner dominated the match from start to finish as he defeated Flynn 18-5.

In the next match, SDSU’s Seth Moe moved up two weight classes from 149 to 165 to wrestle David Bonin. Bonin continued UNI’s domination by overpowering Moe, winning at 21-6.

SDSU’s Joe Rasmussen was next on the mat against Jarion Beets. Beets took an early lead, bringing down Rasmussen less than 30 seconds into the match. He went on to take the win 15-5.

At 184, David Michaud was nursing a hamstring injury, so the Jacks were forced to forfeit the match to Andy O’loughlin.

The 197 match was the Jacks’ final win as Tyler Sorenson defeated Dustin Bauman 7-4.

The heavyweight match pitted Kevin Kelly against Christian Brantley, who was rated 10th in the nation last year. Brantley defeated Kelly 5-4.

The Jacks next match is against Air Force at the Frost Arena on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
