A historic night for senior guard Garrett Callahan ended in a victory as the SDSU men’s basketball team defeated Southern Utah (6-17, 2-10) 84-60 at Frost Arena Feb. 4.

The Seneca, Ill., native climbed into the top 10 on the all-time SDSU scoring list after a game-high 17 points.

“Obviously, it’s a great honor, but it’s not about that, and the guys know that,” Callahan said. “It’s all about team play. Just to be winning is enough for me.”

Head Coach Scott Nagy, who is in his 15th season, thinks Callahan’s accomplishment is a great honor, and it might not be receiving enough credit.

“What he and Kai (Williams) have done in particular, and the stats that they have put up against the best competition South Dakota State has ever played against, I think, has been way understated,” Nagy said.

“He moved into the top 10 in scoring against the best players we’ve ever played against at South Dakota State. I think that it’s a tremendous accomplishment.”
