Reports circulating last evening and this morning about an assault in the Walmart parking lot appear to be false.

Brett Spencer, sergeant with the Brookings Police Department in the Criminal Investigation Division, said his office is not aware of any additional assaults. No one has reported the alleged assault in Walmart to his office, he said.

The reports circulating last evening and this morning – which appear to be rumors, Spencer said – tied the alleged Walmart incident with two recent sexual assaults on campus.

The first incident happened on March 29 shortly after midnight on the south side of Briggs Library. The second incident occurred early April 7, also shortly after midnight, in the parking lot east of the Young and Caldwell residence halls.

The SDSU Police Department and the state Division of Criminal Investigation are currently investigating both campus incidents. Anyone with information pertaining to these crimes should contact SDSUPD at 605-688-5117 or the Brookings Police Department at 605-692-2113.
