This Week At State

John Walker, SDSU’s Patricia Noethe Pierce Distinguished Artist in Residence, will play a monumental, Johannes Brahms’ piano concerto with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The massive work, 45-minutes in length, begins with a very dramatic and intense first movement, followed by a serene, slow movement and concludes with a grandly energetic, Hungarian-style finale. Walker said Brahms used the piano not only as a solo instrument, but also as an accompaniment to various instruments in the orchestra.

Single tickets for SDSO concerts go on sale Sept. 4. More information about the concert can come by calling 1-866-681-7376 or visiting www.sdsymphony.org
