Art Museum kicks off holidays with sale, book signing and concert

The South Dakota Art Museum opens holiday festivities with activity from Friday, Nov. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 21, with its annual Holiday Store Sale.

The Museum Store includes scores of local and regional artists. A wide variety of unique pieces available for sale include original art and prints, handmade jewelry, colorful ceramic pottery and innovative basketry.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, regional photographer Tom Dempster will sign copies of the book, “Behold,” that includes many of his images of the South Dakota prairie that illustrate poetry by Kathryn Timpany of Sioux Falls.

On Sunday, Nov. 21, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Windy Jacks clarinet ensemble, directed by SDSU Assistant Professor of Clarinet Michael Walsh, will perform Christmas carols to give festive sound to the holiday sale weekend.

The Windy Jacks concert is free and open to the public inside the Art Museum Gallery.

The shop will be open throughout the weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Customers can enjoy coffee and cookies throughout the annual Holiday Store Sale.
