The South Dakota Art Museum is coordinating a two-day figure drawing workshop called “Portraits by Fatih.”

The workshop is led by South Dakota State University associate professor of visual arts Fatih Benzer and takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Grove Hall in the painting studio. Grove Hall is located south of The Union between Mathews and Brown residence halls.

Participants will work with a partially nude model and use conventional drawing materials, including soft pastels and compressed charcoals, on color paper. A brief slide presentation by Benzer will explain the diverse cultural and historical perspectives of figure drawing.

Supplies needed for the workshop include soft color pastels, compressed charcoal, colored drawing paper (12×24″ gray, blue-gray or midbrown 8212; Canson or Strathmore recommended), white drawing paper (18×24″), hard erasers and a graphite pencil.

Pre-registration is required before Nov. 13, and cost for both days is $75 for SDAM members and students, $85 for OLLI members and $94 for non-members. Interested people should register by calling the Art Museum at 605-688-4313 or toll free at 866-805-7590. There is no limit to how many people may register.
