Relays round out training trip

TAMPA, Fla. – The South Dakota State men’s and women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up their winter training trip by taking part in the Tampa Relays, hosted by the University of Tampa, on Jan. 8.

The men tied for third in the four team field, while the women placed fourth.

The lone win for the Jacks came from the women in the 500 freestyle scramble relay where Andrea Budahl, Jessica Ferley and Emma Gaulke-Janowski finished in 5 minutes, 35.16 seconds.

The women had a quartet of third place finishes, highlighted by the 3X100 butterfly relay team of Ashley Valdez, Kylie Poel and Emmalee Wright with their time of 3:06.46.

The best finish on the men’s side was the third place 200 freestyle relay of John Bisson, Quinn Holden, Jack Morrow and Jason Garder who clocked in at 1:31.47.

Both the men and women return to the pool this Saturday as they travel to take on the University of St. Louis starting at 5 p.m. The Jacks will then have a rematch with the Billikens on Sunday at 10 a.m.
