EDITORIAL: Keep the conversation going

It’s a new year. For many, the new year brings a reflection on the previous year and a set of goals for the upcoming one.

We’re doing the same at The Collegian.

We ended 2010 with a lot of reader engagement. After reading about the proposed smoking ban, your letters and comments poured in, showing both your support and opposition to the Students’ Association’s proposal.

You’ve read our opinion section and haven’t always agreed with everything, and we want to say a big thank you to each of you who made your voices heard, whether it was through a letter to the editor, a comment on our website, a phone call, an e-mail or a chat on campus.

As always, The Collegian is here to inform and to get the conversation started.

In 2011 we continue to ask you, the reader, keep that momentum going. E-mail us, send us a message on Facebook or Twitter or stop in our office in the basement of The Union in room 069. Our contact information is at the bottom of this page and can also be found on our website.

We’d like to share with you some of our goals for the new year:

To always keep the SDSU community informed on what’s happening at the university.

To provide trustworthy, timely news.

To be the watchdog of those with power, whether it be SA, school administration, Board of Regents, or the City of Brookings.

To not write another self-reflective editorial.

Let’s look forward to a great 2011.
