Ruml said students should vote for her because she deeply cares about people and maintaining good communication between individuals.
Main goal for next year:
To motivate others to make moral and ethical decisions.
“I really want to motivate other decision makers to think, vote, and act ethically,” Ruml said. She believes that when people make such decisions, it has a positive influence on the campus community.
Name: Daniel Roberts

Major: Journalism/Political Science

Roberts said students should vote for him because he wants to be in an organization where he can fight for the rights of the students.
Main goal for next year:
To improve campus dining options.
“I want to add more options,” Roberts said. To achieve that goal, Roberts hopes to serve on a campus dining committee where he can find out what changes the students want the most. He intends to propose a plan to add a Larson-style dining area to Jackrabbit Village.
Name: Brooke Reiner

Major: Political Science/Pre-Law

Reiner said students should vote for her because she is a hard worker who will work toward any big goal or idea that is of importance to SDSU.
Main goal for next year:
To improve the MyStateOnline website and the SDSU website.
“I want to make sure that both websites improve campus communication between students,” Reiner said. She intends to listen to student organizations and students all around campus to see what they want to see on the websites.
Name: Cole Breuer
Hometown: Larchwood, Iowa
Major: Global Studies/Spanish

Breuer said students should vote for him because he would stand up for student rights and ensure that education is the prime concern of the administration.
Main goal for next year:
To try and freeze tuition fees.
“Tuition heights are really important to me,” Breuer said. He wishes to work with SDSU administration members and the state government in trying to prevent an increase in tuition costs.
Name: Jameson Goetz
Hometown: Sioux Falls, S.D.
Major: Spanish/Political Science

Goetz said students should vote for him because he is a hard worker and is willing to listen to the concerns of students and work hard on their behalf.
Main goal for next year:
To expand the student organization space.
“It would affect so many people,” Goetz said. He hopes to get on the right committee so that he can work toward the goal of expansion. Goetz said he wouldn’t be afraid to vote for a small increase in fees as long as it is a reasonable amount.

Berreth said students should vote for him because he has already spent a year on the Senate and looking forward to more opportunities to educate students.
Main goal for next year:
To inform students about the Good Samaritan Policy.
“I want to educate students about what it is and how it works,” Berreth said. He added that he intends to convince students that the policy, which is currently in the state legislature, will be out there to help them.
Name: Rebecca Powell

Major: Music Education

Powell said students should vote for her because she is a great leader who isn’t afraid to fight for the issues that are most important to the students.
Main goal for next year:
To work toward better snow removal around campus.
“I have just heard a lot about students who fall or get injured,” Powell said. She believes that if workers were to start the removal an hour earlier than they do now, students would be safer when walking to classes.

Major: Journalism

Chase said students should vote for him because his past experiences have prepared him for the challenges of serving on the student senate.
Main goal for next year:
To work toward keeping parking lots and sidewalks free of snow.
“I want to explore efficient and easy ways in which the sidewalks and parking lots can be kept clean,” Chase said. He said he would work with university officials to make sure that the areas with heavy student traffic remain safe for students.
College of Agricultural and Biological Sciences
Name: Nicole Schwebach
Hometown: Egan, S.D.
Major: Range Science

Schwebach said students should vote for her because she isn’t afraid to voice her opinion and will help to ensure that other students’ voices are heard.
Main goal for next year:
To extend the dining service hours.
“I think the dining services needs hours that will benefit students with busy schedules,” Schwebach said. She said that the extenions of dining hours will need to occur in small steps, but she hopes to work toward changes that will be beneficial to students.

Major: Agricultural Business

Machmiller said students should vote for him because his farming background allows him to manage high-stress situations. He said he wants to “preserve the lifestyle ag and bio students have come to enjoy,” adding that, “for ag and bio kids, Hansen is our life.”
To better connect students with facilities and services.
“I realize the crush we run into [as commuters],” Machmiller said. “[There should be] better management of how they distribute their efforts to more effectively remove snow.”

Major: Political Science/Economics

Ellefsan said students should vote for him because he is dedicated to making decisions that mirror the student body and will best fit the growing campus.
Main goal for next year:
To work toward completing the next phase of the PAC.
“It’s been on the docket for a long time,” Ellefsan said. He said he would work with the local and state chairs on the project, adding that a fee increase is needed to ultimately make the PAC completion a reality because it will be hard to find state funding.

Major: Agricultural Education

Naasz said students should vote for her because she is very involved in campus and is willing and ready to listen to the concerns from students studying in all of the colleges at SDSU.
Main goal for next year:
To extend the reach of the College of Agricultural and Biological Sciences.
“I really just want to connect the ag clubs [so that] we can cooperate with other groups on campus,” Naasz said. She hopes to possibly work with UPC to bring ag-related events to campus.
Name: Kaytlin Pelton
Hometown: Aberdeen, S.D.
Major: Biology

Pelton said students should vote for her because she is willing to listen to students and is interested in listening to their collective opinions.
Main goal for next year:
To get more students across campus involved in S.A. and inform them about SA’s goals.
“I would really like to get more students to know what SA does,” Pelton said. She said that there are many ways to gets students more involved and hopes to let students know what SA does compared to other organizations on campus.

Duxbury said students should vote for him because he will provide a strong voice for students and promised to always be informed on issues that impact SDSU.
Main goal for next year:
To get rid of the $50 flex dollar limit at the Dairy Bar and Meat Lab.
“I’m definitely looking at the food issue and how we’re able to spend our meal plans,” Duxbury said. “I’m looking at how the $50 limit is seriously affecting the people who are working there and the department as a whole.”

Hometown: Kadoka, S.D.
Major: Park Management

Stout said students should vote for him because he is hard working and has a desire to help everyone. He believes the best way to make SDSU better is to communicate with students.
Main goal for next year:
To increase the amount of recycling on campus.
“I believe that [everyone] has a responsibility to maintain a healthy environment for future generations,” Stout said. He said that the easiest way for SDSU to work toward this goal is to push for the use of more green materials across campus.
Name: Brett Lynch
Hometown: Lemmon, S.D.
Major: General Agriculture

Lynch said that if students come to him with a problem, he will do his best to work it out, adding that he has developed leadership experience while participating in many organizations.
Main goal for next year:
To extend dining hours on campus.
“I want to seek extending the hours that Medary Commons, Larson Commons and the Union commons are open for serving food, even seeing that they can be open longer on the weekends.”

Major: Biology/Pre-Optometry

Sesso said students should vote for him because he has previous experiences in student government and is willing to work hard for the student body.
Main goal for next year:
To improve the lighting on campus.
“There are a few areas on campus that have limited lighting,” Sesso said. He wants more emergency boxes to be placed in these areas so that students feel they can be safe anywhere around campus.
Name: Joshua Johnson
Hometown: Harrisburg, S.D.
Major: Agricultural Education

Johnson said students should vote for him because he has shown leadership through serving as a senator for the past year and added that he is knowledgeable in university business.
Main goal for next year:
To improve SA communications with student organizations.
“[I would like to] improve communications between organizations and in the Senate,” Johnson said. “And make sure that groups are being asked to come to senate meetings.” He added that he has experience in people relations within the university community.
Name: Mark Hayes
Hometown: Big Lake, Minn.
Major: Landscape Architecture

Hayes said students should vote for him because he has been an SA senator for one year and works well with others.
Main goal for next year:
To work toward the expansion of the PAC and Wellness Center.
“I’m on the search committee for the Wellness Center director,” Hayes said. He added that he is hardworking and goal-oriented.
College of Pharmacy
Name: Chance Wachholtz
Hometown: Papillion, Neb.
Major: Pharmacy

Wachholtz said students should vote for him because he will do everything in his power to make SDSU’s campus a better one.
Main goal for next year:
Hire a full-time internship coordinator.
Wachholtz said “[a full-time internship coordinator] would bring a lot of research internships to campus” for both pharmacy and non-pharmacy majors.

Hometown: Maple Grove, Minn.
Major: Pre-Pharmacy

Schilla said students should vote for her because she is tenacious when given a task and doesn’t give up on any task willingly.
To improve the dining facilities around campus by adjusting the operating hours and increasing the variety of food choices.
“If there is a change that students feel should be made to the campus, I will listen to their opinions and do my best to make sure these changes will happen.”

Main goal for next year:
To increase awareness of the Wellness Center and begin Phase II of that project.
“I believe that I possess exemplary communication and leadership skills vital to a position that involves representation of not only my specific college but also the voice of the entire student population.”

Major: Pharmacy

Hall said students should vote for her because she would dedicate her time to listening to the needs of students and implementing their ideas.

To pass OrgSync, an online platform that would bring all campus organizations into one Internet community for better communication with the student body.

To work to reduce the cost of cardio passes at the Wellness Center.
“A friend of mine once described … academically dedicated students as rockstars and I would love nothing more than to be their lead voice.”

Vellek said students should vote for him because he has served in many leadership positions on campus including RHA and South Dakota State 4-H Treasurer.
Main goal for next year:
To impose an actual rule for attendance for teachers who are late.
“I have a lot of experience in past offices that I’ve filled, and from attending every single (SA meeting) this year, I know what’s going on.”

Major: Civil Engineering

Underberg said students should vote for her because she has previous leadership experience as well as experience on the Senate.
Main goal for next year:
Finding and implementing a website or portal for student organizations.
“This would make it easier to stay in touch with student leaders and student organization members.”

Major: Construction Management

DeBoer said students should vote for him because he believes there are a lot of things that can be improved to better serve the students.
Main goal for next year:
To expand the student discount club.
“I believe there’s a lot of things that can be improved upon with what is already in place,” DeBoer said. He added that he would like to see every business participating as part of the student discount club.”

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Brewer said students should vote for him because he has the qualities of a good leader. He is motivated, and he will strive to listen to his peers.
Main goal for next year:
To improve the walking conditions during the winter months.
“I think there’s something that could be done there to scrape the ice up around the dorms and the buildings that are most used,” Brewer said. He plans to talk to the dorm employees to see what can be worked out.

DeBoer said students should vote for him because he is hard working and goal-oriented. He also has a year’s worth of experience as a student senator.

Rauenhorst said students should vote for him because through his committee involvement, more student voices have been injected into decision-making processes.
Main goal for next year:
To increase campus sustainability efforts via a campuswide recycling system.
“I want to see recycling all across campus 8212; in every building and outside as well.”

Name: Chau Tran

Major: Nursing

Tran said students should vote for him because he is confident and persistent in pursuing the wants and needs of the student body and would work hard to meet his goals.
Main goal for next year:
To improve the wireless connections on campus.
“I want to sit down with the ITO and discuss with them why the Internet is so slow. I want to discuss how to fix that problem … and talk infrastructure-wise, like (about) new wireless routers.
Name: Johney Tsai
Hometown: Vermillion, S.D.
Major: Nursing

Tsai said students should vote for him because he would provide knowledgeable and useful information to the SDSU Students’ Association.
Main goal for next year:
To provide awareness and funding for our Wintrode Center and tutoring services.
“I would love to represent the College of Nursing as well as SDSU and continue to provide endless opportunities for our students.”
College Education and Human Sciences
Name: Laura Barber
Hometown: Enning, S.D.
Major: Health Promotion/Pre-Physical Therapy

Barber said students should vote for her because she has a lot of condifence and uses good judgement whenever she looks at an issue.
Main goal for next year:
To work on making the Wellness Center more accessible.
“I would like to be on a committee … and on a wellness center advisory board,” Barber said. She hopes to work closely with the staff of the Wellness Center to try to eliminate fees for students who wish to use the center over summer break.
