The SDSU women’s basketball team returned to action Thursday night as they defeated Oral Roberts, 84-48.

That is 12 wins in a row for the Jacks as they bump their record to 20-8 overall and 16-1 in the Summit League.

SDSU was led by Myah Selland, who had 20 points on 8-15 shooting from the field. Tori Nelson chipped in 13 points and Paige Meyer stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Jacks dominated inside, outscoring Oral Roberts 58-32 in points in the paint and outrebounding the Golden Eagles 45-22.

Paiton Burckhard, who had nine points and nine rebounds, talked about the matchup inside and how they game planned for Oral Roberts’s post players.

“We came in with the mentality that we are going to have to work hard down low, box out, finish plays and then turning that into offense,” Burckhard said.

The game started as both teams tried to establish themselves in the paint as baskets were scored back and forth. SDSU jumped out to an early 23-14 lead after one-quarter of play.

Oral Roberts battled the whole first half behind Tirzah Moore, who finished with 15 points, but SDSU’s defense built an 11-point lead at the half, 40-29.

The Jacks used a strong third quarter outscoring Oral Roberts 28-12 and that was what head coach Aaron Johnston said was the key to the game.

“We were really good offensively in that third quarter. It gave us a chance to pull away and have a nice cushion for the rest of the game,” Johnston said.

The Jacks never looked back as they cruised in the 4th quarter only allowing 7 ORU points as Mesa Byom scored 8 points on 3/3 shooting in the quarter.

SDSU finishes up the regular season for one last home game on Saturday as they host Kansas City at Frost Arena at 2 p.m. It is also senior day as the Jacks look to honor Tylee Irwin, Haley Greer, Lauren Rongisch and Addison Hirschman.
