Frehiwot Werede is “thinking about applying for citizenship after she graduates”. The only right she is denied is the right to vote. She is attending school with financial aid….but she is not a citizen. We have citizens of our wonderful country that cannot obtain financial aid-not enough to go around. They take out huge loans to go to school-to better themselves. Why should she reap the benefits without making the effort to commit herself to being a citizen of our country? She has certainly had plenty of time to do this-what is she waiting for? She will accept the money given to her, the friendship extended, the education offered-but she won’t give back the courtesy of saying, “Thanks-this is a wonderful country and that is why I want to become a citizen!”
