The SDSU men’s club hockey team traveled to St. Cloud, Minn. for a series with the St. Cloud State Huskies.

The Jacks had won their previous two series against Carlton College and the University of South Dakota, and were on a four-game winning streak heading into the weekend matchup. The team lost Saturday’s game, 4-8, ending their winning streak. The Jacks then lost Sunday’s rematch 1-7.

Head Coach Marty Schipull felt the first game was lost in the second quarter. “We played horrible in the second period,” he said.

Schipull was pleased that his team battled back, but said, “We ran out of time, or gas, or both.”

In Saturday night’s rematch, the two teams were close for most of the game. The score was tied 1-1 until late in the second period. The Huskies scored three goals in the final two minutes to take a 4-1 lead.

Even though Dan Ingemansen gave up a total 15 goals on the weekend, Schipull believes Ingemansen played outstanding. “He [Dan] kept us in the game. He made some great saves.”

The Jacks’ next games are a home series with Carlton College this upcoming weekend, Jan. 27 and 28 at Larson Ice Center.. The Jacks defeated Carlton 4-3 and 13-5, earlier in the season. That does not mean the Jacks will overlook Carlton.

“I assume Carlton will be better than the first time we played them … I don’t want to pull a Wisconsin [and lose to a team that should be beaten.]”
