The South Dakota State University men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to Sioux Falls on Friday to compete in the Augustana Twilight at Yankton Trail Park.
It was a successful trip, as both teams finished in first place.
Jackrabbit Men
The SDSU men dominated, taking the top five places in the four-mile race.
Senior Cody Larson won the race with a time of 18:00.10, setting a new SDSU course record.
Junior Jackson Dutcher followed in second with a time of 18:19.03, a new personal best.
Cashton Johnson finished third with a time of 18:41.36, followed closely by Brandon Kampsen in fourth at 18:44.92.
Junior Will Lohr rounded out the Jackrabbit top five, finishing with a time of 18:45.91.
Other top finishers for SDSU included Dale Johnson (eighth, 18:55.41), Cade Sanvik (10th, 19:12.66), junior Luke Johnson (12th, 19:17.40) and Jared Lutmer (16th, 19:24.41).
The South Dakota State men won the team title with a perfect score of 15 points. Augustana was second with 63 points, followed by Minnesota State, Concordia and Doane in the top five.
Jackrabbit Women
The SDSU women claimed the top three spots in their race Friday.
Senior Ashlyn Hillyard won the women’s 5K with a time of 17:04.27.
Junior Eleni Lovgren was just behind her, finishing second with a time of 17:04.76.
Sophomore Courtney Stadter secured the top-three sweep for the Jackrabbits, finishing third with a time of 17:08.47.
Emma Gonzalez finished just outside the top five, placing sixth with a time of 17:33.64.
A pack of Jackrabbits also finished between 14th and 18th place, led by Emma Ecker (17:47.22). She was followed by Greta Peters, Annie Robinson, Nicole Swanson and Kelsey Schmidt (17:56.03).
SDSU won the women’s team title with 20 points. Minnesota State was a distant second with 75 points, followed by Augustana, Minnesota Crookston and Gustavus Adolphus.

Both squads will travel to the Twin Cities for the annual Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. The men will run at 10 a.m. next Friday, and the women will run at 10:45 a.m.
