The South Dakota State volleyball team extended its win streak to four matches with a 3-0 win over the Kansas City Roos on Thursday night.
SDSU moves to 10-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. Kansas City falls to 2-16 and 1-4 in conference play.
Freshman Hannah Klein led the Jacks with 12.5 points. Klein had seven kills, five service aces and a block assist.
Fifth-year senior Sydni Schetnan wasn’t far behind with 12 points coming on 10 kills and four block assists.
Junior Sylvie Zgonc had a relatively quiet night for her standard with 11 points, all of them coming on her 11 kills. Zgonc also added six digs to her stat line.
For the Roos, Ryanne Wattree led the way with eight points on eight kills. Wattree also had two errors on 21 attempts.
In the first set, SDSU came out of the gate hot, taking a 6-0 lead. SDSU maintained its lead the entire set, eventually winning 25-16 on a Zgonc kill.
The second set started closer, with the set being tied 4-4 before an SDSU scoring run gave the Jacks an 11-6 lead. The Roos didn’t back down and cut the lead to 16-14. SDSU pulled away and secured a 25-18 win to take a 2-0 lead.
The third set once again started close, with a 5-5 tie before an SDSU 3-0 run. Kansas City responded with a 3-0 run of its own to tie it back up. SDSU pulled out to a 15-10 lead, and Kansas City wasn’t able to overcome the deficit. The Jackrabbits won the set 25-18 after a Hannah Klein ace.
This win gives SDSU its seventh sweep of the season and its second in a row. SDSU will stay home to host the 10-4 St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday at 7 p.m.
