The South Dakota State women’s volleyball team secured its second consecutive win to close out the SDSU Invitational, defeating Wyoming in four sets Sunday after sweeping Ole Miss on Friday.
After a 25-20 first-set loss to the Cowgirls, the Jackrabbits fell behind 12-7 early in the second set before storming back to tie the score at 16 on a Madison Burr kill. From there, Wyoming pushed its lead to 21-17 before another SDSU run tied it at 22.
After more back-and-forth play, the Jackrabbits won the set on an attack error by Addy Cook to tie the match at 1-1.
SDSU rode that momentum to a 14-8 lead to start the third set. The lead did not last long, as Wyoming charged back to tie the game at 16 on a Paige Lauterwasser ace. SDSU regained control and went on to win the set 25-21 on a Sydni Schetnan kill.
Down 2-1 in the match, the Cowgirls kept the fourth set close throughout. Wyoming took a 20-17 lead, but a 4-0 run, capped by a Sylvie Zgonc kill, gave SDSU a one-point advantage. The score was tied at 24 before a Zgonc kill and another error by Cook gave SDSU the 26-24 set victory and the 3-1 match win.
