The Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Wyoming Cowgirls 3-1 on Saturday in the Jackrabbit Invitational at First Bank & Trust Arena.
After dropping the first set, Ole Miss (3-2) won by scores of 20-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-12.
Wyoming (2-2) started strong, capitalizing on a Rebels team that had played host South Dakota State on Friday night.
After splitting the first two sets, Wyoming built a 17-12 lead in the crucial third set to force an Ole Miss timeout. The Rebels responded by scoring nine of the next 10 points, eventually holding off a late Cowgirl rally to win the set 25-22. Ole Miss then controlled the fourth set, cruising to a 25-12 victory to clinch the match.
Gabi Placide paced the Rebels’ attack, landing 21 kills on 45 swings. Melia Johnson also finished in double-digits with 17 kills and a .452 hitting percentage.
Setter Mokihana Tufono directed the offense with 49 assists and added 11 digs for a double-double. Cammy Niesen led the defense with 15 digs, and Cameron Bradley contributed 11.
For the Cowgirls, Addy Thorington led the offense with 11 kills and was the only Wyoming player to reach double-digit kills. Sara Quigley finished with 28 assists, while Paige Lauterwasser and Skylar Erickson paced the defense with eight digs each.
