South Dakota State running back Julius Loughridge was named the first Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week this year on Monday.
The senior ran for 159 yards on 22 carries in his Jackrabbit debut, including six carries of over 10 yards. This stat line was highlighted by runs of 37 in the second quarter and 32 in the fourth quarter.
A transfer from Fordham, Loghridge helped propel the SDSU offense to 240 yards on the ground in its 20-3 win over Sacramento State, which was the program’s 30th consecutive home victory as well as Dan Jackson’s first game as head coach.
The second-ranked Jackrabbits will travel to Bozeman, Mont. Saturday to take on No. 3 Montana State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
