From the Students’ Association President

Congratulations on making one of the biggest decisions of your life, and welcome to South Dakota State University! We are excited to have you join us.

Three years ago I walked in your shoes. I felt nervous, excited, unprepared, and eager all at once, yet I have never regretted my decision to come here.

I hope you realize the immense opportunities that are ahead. College is a time of independence, fun, and potential. Once you leave this campus, life changes, but for now, you really can do anything and become anyone. You may never again have the opportunity to reinvent yourself or change directions like you do right now. I encourage you to take advantage of this time, so when you graduate, you can look back and smile at the memories before moving on to the next great chapter of your life. Your choices are unlimited. Choose well!

So what opportunities await you? At SDSU you will make some of your best friends and develop into the person that you want to become. Not only do we offer top-quality academic programs and professors, but also dozens of activities and opportunities. Just make sure that you get involved. Check out some of our 200 clubs and organizations. You can participate in intramurals, the Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band, theatre, Greek Life, or more. Look into studying abroad for a couple weeks, a semester, or even a full year! Our University Programming Council works hard to bring concerts and comedians to SDSU, as well as organize trips to off-campus events, including Minnesota Vikings and Twins games. With weekly events scheduled all year long, you will have dozens of chances to join the fun.

As the Students’ Association President, I would be remiss not to mention getting involved with your student government. SA serves as the students’ voice on campus, in Brookings, and in the state. We also provide funding for many of the organizations on campus. If you have a concern, your SA representatives are the ones to talk to. Overall, we work to implement positive changes for SDSU students. Feel free to stop in anytime! I personally would appreciate the opportunity to meet you.

Once again, I welcome you to your college experience! The university, as well as the outstanding community of Brookings, provides a great place to live, work, and mingle. Congratulations on becoming a Jackrabbit, and I wish you all the best as you settle in and find your stride at SDSU.
