Womens’s group to enter the world of craft beer

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Call it the book club of beer.

A group of women in eastern South Dakota has begun gathering to sample and learn about craft beer. Together, they’re trying to counter the idea that beer is man’s territory.

Group member Charmaine Houck tells the Brookings Register (http://bit.ly/1CjDEP6 ) that many women haven’t tried beer because of the marketing surrounding the drink. She says the world of craft beer maybe intimidating for some women.

The group was started when local bartender Cassie TenCate met other women interested in learning more about the drink.

More than 20 women showed up for the group’s first meeting this month at the Wooden Legs Brewing Company in Brookings. The group plans to host upcoming meetings at local bars to have access to a variety of craft beers.
