During the third Students’ Association meeting of the fall semester, a senator announced his resignation, workgroup memberships were appointed and the Athletics Department spoke.
It was announced at the meeting that Ryan Sailors, who represented the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences will resign effective immediately.
The Students’ Association will begin looking for an at-large candidate starting at 8 a.m, Tuesday, Sept. 11. Those who are interested in becoming a senator are asked to stop in the SA office to pick up a petition.
Also, SA approved its workgroup memberships for the General Activity Fee strategic planning and the five committees. They will be: Athletic Facilities and Operations, Transportation, Student Life, Wellness Services and Student Organization.
Linda Kott, the Information Services associate librarian, talked during the open forum and discussed “Living Library,” a program that challenges stereotypes. The event will be sponsored by Hilton M. Briggs Library, the Multicultural Center and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Living Library, is a metaphor in which people tell their own stories to groups of threes. The talks will last 20 minutes and will feature talks about disabilities, prejudice, gender and racism.

Athletic Director Justin Sell talked to SA about the importance of athletics to the university.
“The decision [to move to Division I athletics] was made just as much for the university as it was for the athletic department,” Sell said.
The student attendance for the game against the Jacks and the Montana State Bobcats was over 3,300 students, according to Sell. The total attendance was 14,614 well over the 11,994 average attendance the NCAA recorded in 2017.
Sell also announced the football team will be playing only 10 games this season, as SDSU was unable to come to an agreement with a team to play on its bye week of Sept. 22.
Helping Everyone Reach Optimal Health (HEROH) also talked during the meeting and explained some of their programs that they offer to the student body.
One of those events is the Sex Ed Boot Camp, which will take place on at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the Volstorff Ballroom.
Students’ Association adviser, Michaela Willis announced about 30 students reserved their place for the upcoming townhomes and apartments being built on the southeast side of campus. There are still about 190 spots to be filled.
Another adviser, Florencio Aranda announced the Latin American Student Association will be hosting the Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Fishback Studio Theatre in the Performing Arts Center.
SA also announced that they will be hosting a radio show on 90.7 KSDJ on the last Monday of every month. The show will last from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
The next meeting for SA will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17 in the Lewis and Clark Room, the upstairs room in the Student Union.
